This listing is for a 2001 US Silver Eagle coin, which was inside the World Trade Center during its destruction on September 11, 2001. This coin was among them. When the buildings collapsed, the vault remained intact – however, it was subjected to massive amounts of heat and pressure over long periods of time. Eventually, enough rubble was cleared away to open the vaults. It was found that the coins nearest the walls had been destroyed. The coins furthest from the walls were unscathed. And in between those, there was a section of the vault where the coins had been scarred by the violence of that day, but not destroyed. This is one of those exceptionally rare versions. The coin has been heat-toned by the fires that took the towers down, and it’s one of the most visceral connections to that moment that can be obtained for a private collection. After the coins were recovered, they were authenticated and encased by PCGS, the most trusted coin authentication/grading service in the world. The only way to open the case is to break it, so you can be certain that the coin inside is PCGS-certified as a genuine relic from the World Trade Center’s destruction. Overall, the case is in great condition. I’ve kept it sealed in a archival bag to prevent scratches. The only flaw that I can find is that when PCGS affixed their hologram sticker to the inside of the case, some of the hologram peeled off with the backing. So there are a few holes in the sticker. But it’s a minor issue, and because the sticker is on the inside of the case and completely inaccessible, you don’t have to worry about it being scraped off further. The winner will receive the exact item in the photos, so please refer to those for a closer look. Thank you for viewing this listing!
