After Saint-Gaudens’ death, the original plasters were housed at his estate in Cornish, New Hampshire, which was declared a National Historic Site by Congress in 1964, and the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park in 2019. Now in 2024, in partnership with the National Park Foundation (NPF), Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park, and using the designs re-sculpted by former U. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, Saint-Gaudens’ original vision has been brought to life in a way it’s never been seen before! Facilitated By The Legendary John Mercanti. Only the best of the best could be trusted with the priceless original plasters to bring that design to life. That person was nonother than John Mercanti, the U. Mint’s 12th Chief Engraver. During his tenure at the U. Mint, Mercanti created and engraved more than 100 coin and medal designs-more than any other engraver in mint history. Here now in 2024, for the first time, the NPF has approved the production of this set of Saint-Gaudens Indian Head Liberty commemoratives that not only present these iconic designs the way Saint-Gaudens envisioned them, but in Super Incuse! Struck In Unique Dual Super Incuse. An incuse design is created when the devices of the specimen, which typically rise up off the fields of the coin, are instead struck down past the surface of the metal. These silver & gold commemoratives take that idea to the extreme, by not just carrying designs struck a bit into their surfaces, but rather as far into their surfaces as possible. Fittingly dubbed “Super Incuse” the effect becomes far more difficult to manufacture when done on both the obverse and reverse of the pieces as seen here. We’re calling it Dual Super Incuse. Beautiful Soft Satin Specimen Finish. What’s more, these commemoratives were struck as specimens. Traditionally, specimen coins are perfect examples of a particular circulating coin issue. They are among the first pieces struck from a new set of dies, giving them clear strikes and pristine finishes. Similar to proof coins, specimens are handled with extreme care and set aside, usually as gifts or valuable collectibles-a common practice in the early days of the U. A perfect complement to the Super Incuse devices! Hurry, Just 4,999 One-Ounce Silver Commemoratives Were Struck For Worldwide Release!
