Adolph Weinman is best known for designing two of the most important coins of America’s early 20th century numismatic renaissance, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime. He was also a sculptor, and his work remains on displays in numerous American cities. The Type-2 Silver Eagle obverse carries Weinman’s initials, “AW, ” for the first time in the history of the series, appearing below the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Reverse: The reverse features a new design by Emily Damstra. Sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, it shows an eagle preparing to land with an oak branch in its talons.
