It is CERTIFIED and GRADED a perfect Mint State 70 by The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. Shortly after its initial release it was discovered that some of the 2008-W Silver Eagles were struck using the prior reverse die type. The variety is by distinguished by several factors with the most distinct being the appearance of a smooth bowl shaped U in United. The reverse of the majority of 2008-Ws has a downward tab on the lower right side of the U. The estimated mintage is only 47,000 pieces which make it the rarest Mint State silver eagle. These account for less than ten-percent of the 2008-W total mintage of 533,757 pieces.
