Reversing the mirror-like background finish of a traditional proof coin and applying it to the design elements of the coin achieves a magnificent contrast. 2013-W Enhanced American Silver Eagle Uncirculated – Certified NGC SP70 Enhanced Finish – Early Releases – West Point Star Label – NGC Black Core’Retro’ Holder The uncirculated coin features enhancements that are unusual for an uncirculated coin. On the obverse, the mountains, the red stripes and blue parts of the United States flag, the year, and Liberty’s sandals have an uncirculated finish. The remaining elements and lettering on the obverse have the heavy frosted finish. On the reverse, the ribbon in the eagle’s beak, the arrows, and olive branch, the alternating stripes in the shield and the border around the shield have an uncirculated finish. The lettering and other design elements have the heavy frosted finish. The fields on both sides have the new light frosted finish. All these enhancements – unique to this American Silver Eagle Uncirculated coin – add sharp definition to the design. About United States Mint at West Point The U. Mint at West Point was completed on June 13, 1938 and sits on four acres of land near the United States Military Academy’s old North Gate. The West Point facility – which originally funtioned solely as a bullion depository – played a pivotal role during World War II, loaning silver to the War Department, industry and our allies under the Lend-Lease Program. In 1982, more than 57 million fine troy ounces of gold bullion was transferred to the West Point facility for storage in its vaults. Today, it stores, secures and protects one-quarter of the Nation’s gold reserves and most of the silver bullion owned by the United States. In 1980, the United States Mint at West Point began striking gold in the form of the American Arts Gold Medallions. This was also the first coin to bear the distinctive “W” mint mark for the United States Mint at West Point. The West Point facility received its official status, designating it as the United States Mint at West Point, on March 31, 1988, making it the first new government-operated mint in the United States in more than 100 years. Today the West Point facility is the primary production facility that mints gold, silver and platinum bullion coins, as well as numismatic and commemorative coins.
