Aka Coronet Quarter Eagle. This is a guaranteed gold 2.5 dollar coin minted in Philadelphia. You can verify the certification at the NGC website. You will receive the exact coin shown in the pictures. Just shy of 12 million were minted across 5 mints; Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dahlonega, New Orleans, and San Francisco. There were also just over 4000 proofs minted as well. The coin stands as the longest uninterrupted use of a design without a major alteration. In 1840 when the Liberty Head debuted, the country was still a wild frontier. By 1907 the country was completely changed. No longer a country in its infancy, America was a military and economic power in the world. On the obverse (front) is a large head of Liberty. She is facing left with her hair in a bun with a string of pearls. She has a coronet that has’LIBERTY’ on it. Around her head are 13 stars (for the 13 colonies). Below Liberty is the date. On the reverse is an eagle. Its wings reach side to side. A union shield is on its breast. In the eagle’s right claw is a symbol of peace; the olive branch. In the eagle’s left claw are 3 arrows that were meant to symbolize military readiness. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ surrounds the eagle. At the bottom of the coin is the denomination;’2 1/2 D.
